Eagle Creek Specter Compression Cube Set

I would like to introduce you to what is quickly becoming my new travel favorite, Eagle Creek's Specter Compression Cube Set.

Part of their Pack-it System, this lightweight piece holds a lot and then zips up to compress the bag just enough to make a difference in your suitcase. It does not let out air and flatten up like the vacuum space bags, which is good as I am not very fond of those. They leave everything too wrinkled but I'll admit they do serve a purpose.

I found this 2 piece set at The Container Store. They are having a luggage sale and I was lured in to their packing demonstration where they showed mostly Eagle Creek products. I love luggage and packing and all of the gadgets that go with it so I was happy to participate. I was rewarded at the end with a $15 Container Store gift card which I happily used on this set, sale price $29.99.

Shown in the photo are all of the clothes I'm taking for my 2 day trip to DC tomorrow! It fits great in my carry on suitcase leaving plenty of room for toiletries, shoes, and laptop.

Oh the weather outside is...amazing

The past few days have been incredibly beautiful, weather-wise. It makes one want to be outside all the time.

Notes from a Small Island...

I love travel writing. I just finished re-reading this old favorite from Bill Bryson, Notes From a Small Island...

How time flies

It's almost the end of summer. The shortening of the days adds insult to injury. I've always been a morning person, I love rising with the sun. I take some of my best photos when I'm out early. Places like London and Las Vegas are so different when their streets are quiet and empty, eerie almost.

Fall and winter have their own lovely qualities but the long days of summer are this traveller's favorite. I will miss them. 

My fall trips are coming together. San Diego, DC, London and new to the line up - Paris. Exciting things to look forward to, softening the blow put upon me by shorter days and colder temps. I expect one day I will wake up and love the harsh chill of winter but until then, I'll be out soaking up as much daylight as I can.

The summer is over. I've done a lot of traveling this year and I'm tasking myself with recapping it so I don't forget...

I've been pricing out hotels in NY for a trip in September. I have not found anything "decent" for under $450! Is it me or is that just the most ridiculous thing you've ever heard. Granted, it's been several months, at least, since I've been to the big Apple, but how could prices go up that much?

Obviously there is the demand. If people are paying then the prices will remain as high as they can. And, of course, I'm going to have to pay. It's just like sports and athletes. They make as much money as they do (as opposed to teachers, police and firefighters (yum)) because of the demand from fans. Fans are willing to pay higher ticket prices and higher cable tv prices to watch their games and favorite players. So the players can demand more and more money.

I love NY, but no one should have to sell a kidney to afford to visit...

Next up...San Diego

I have nothing planned until San Diego. That's not til September. I suppose it won't hurt to be home in the summer, but I can already feel myself getting restless and it's effecting (or is that affecting...?) my mood.

Maybe I'll go to the Cape for a weekend. As crowded as it gets, it's still the best place to be. Apart from London that is. When it's not under a terrorist threat. Why would anyone want to hurt London? It's such a magnificant city, see:


It's one of the few places I would choose to live. In no particular order:

Not that I consider moving, I love it here. With the exception of a few people, almost everyone of importance in my life is here. Not that those on the exception list aren't important. But they are too spread out for me to be near no matter where I move. So I'll just stay here, and wait until September.
